Many advisors don’t like to give out free knowledge, as if what they know is some secret treasure.

While there are no shortcuts, there are certainly shortlists of investments that are likely to outpace the stock market over almost all 5-to 10-year intervals.

A few quick notes on recommendations:

In order for me to give a recommendation, there is a whole 6-9/mo process to vet investments in order to find the ones I am willing to invest in, but I will cover that process some other time.

For now, let me give you a quick look at the main requirements.

They must be likely to beat the market (otherwise, why divert any money from my stock market investments?).

It should have much better cash flow than the stock market (not relying on speculation for returns).

They must be less volatile than the market.

As you may have read above, I am looking for investments that I will put my money in because the final requirement when vetting an investment is:

I am literally investing my own money in it.

Because if I am not investing in it why in the world would I recommend it to my clients?

With almost zero exceptions, I will not recommend anything to my clients that I am not investing my own money in, and the investments below are the ones I invest my own money in.

If you do not have investments like these in your portfolio, you should ask your advisor about them. Feel free to use this list as a conversation starter.

(As always, past experience does not guarantee future results. There are risks to investing…and all that smart legal talk. But this is where my money is)

Once again, I recommend you take all the info here and send it over to your advisor. Get their take on it.

But be warned, at my last firm, we were not allowed to offer most of these because they didn’t have selling agreements with them.

But instead of saying that, we were told to say they were too risky or something like that, which is funny because you can see in my vetting process that one of my requirements is that there be less volatility than in the stock market.

If you have any questions about the info above, feel free to email me.
